"Get advice early because the sooner we start to turn things around, the easier it will be for you. That said, if you have been struggling for years, don't feel defeated. Get the right advice and start moving forward positively. It is never too late."
Dionna Newton BSc (Hons) AdvDipCABT VN
We know how frustrating and stressful it can be and how helpless you can feel living with a pet with behavioural problems. You love them to bits but at the same time they are causing you stress and anguish. Most people say they feel defeated and there's no hope for their situation.
The first thing you need to remember is "ITS NOT YOUR FAULT". Behaviour problems can occur for a whole world of different reasons even to the most experienced pet owners.
You may have already tried to get help from "Dr Google", Dog Walkers, Dog Trainers, your local vet and even a Pet Groomer or Pet Shop but nothing has worked. But have you tried an Animal Behaviourist? Then you haven’t tried the one thing you need to do! The only thing…
Has your pet been put on Medications to treat the "symptoms" of their behaviour problem? Not much point if the cause still isn't being treated.
Don't worry you've taken the first steps to get help. You are here in the right place.
Its now time your us to educate you on how we're going to help you.
YOUR SECOND QUESTION: ARE YOU JUST GOING TO PUT MY PET ON MEDICATIONS?
OUR ANSWER: NO. FINDING THE CAUSE IS THE KEY!
At Animal Behaviour Australia we are committed to rectifying the underlying cause of your pet’s behaviour problem, to give you a problem-free pet going forward. Just treating the symptoms alone will not rectify the underlying cause of your pet’s unwanted behaviour. Once a behaviour treatment plan has been put in place for your pet if medications can assist in part of the treatment these would then be prescribed by your vet.
YOUR THIRD QUESTION: DO YOU USE NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT TECHNIQUES?
OUR ANSWER: ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Negative reinforcement techniques should never be used. Our aim to find fun, motivating solutions for our clients to turn their pets unwanted behaviour problems into acceptable behaviours in a fun way.
YOUR FOURTH QUESTION SHOULD ALWAYS BE: WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE?
Dionna Newton is the founder of Animal Behaviour Australia. She is a qualified Animal Behaviourist with over 20 years of experience. Dionna is extremely caring and highly motivated to help rectify your pet's behaviour.
"Every single cat case is different, even when the topic is the same."

WHERE ARE YOU BASED? HOW DOES IT WORK?
YOU SEE ME IN YOUR OWN HOME AT A TIME CONVENIENT TO YOU
All consultations are performed by video call in your own home. You might think you need to come a see me face to face in a veterinary clinic or for me to perform a home visit but that wouldnt be giving you the best results for your pet. You see after more than a decade of doing face to face, in-clinic consultations and home visits I knew something was missing from the process. The ability to see your pet relaxed in their own home just how you see them everyday.

Why are video call consultations getting better results? Surely, video call consultations just won't be as good as in-person consultations?

DO VIDEO CALL BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATIONS REALLY WORK? - DEFINITELY YES!
After more than a decade of face to face, in-clinic consultations I was sceptical about the effectiveness of this technology too. But experience has proven that they not only work, but are actually superior in overcoming limitations with traditional methods.
Video-calls are more effective than in-clinic appointments or house visits for behavioural consultations… Here’s why:
1. Consultations take place while the pet remains in their normal behaviour state:
When a pet enters a veterinary clinic, or has a stranger in their home during a consultation their natural behaviour inevitably changes. As an Animal Behaviourist, seeing how a pet acts normally conducting daily life (problems and all) is extremely important. If necessary (and it often isn't), clients can supplement a video-call by sending in a short video of their pet’s unwanted behaviours.
2. Consultations take place in the pet's home environment:
Depending on the nature of the pet’s behaviour problem, being guided through the home, or problem location, on a hand-held device while discussing the pet’s routines can provide invaluable information that helps to diagnose behavioural issues. Leading to efficient treatment.
3. Clients can access professional services not available locally, at a time that enables all family members to attend (including after-hours consultations):
Meeting all family members involved in a pet’s care, and creating a team plan to prevent or rectify behavioural problems greatly improves the long-term effectiveness of positive behaviour change.
4. Consultation prices are kept low by avoiding unnecessary overheads:
Video calls are free of travel time, travel costs and clinic operating costs, meaning clients get great value and save their time too. Video calls are very simple using the Zoom platform. That simple, anybody who has a smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC with a camera can do it. Even 89 year olds (our oldest client to date!).
Not Convinced? Check out our clients testimonials on our website.
AREN'T ANIMAL BEHAVIOURISTS EXPENSIVE & ONLY USED AS A LAST RESORT?- NOT ANYMORE!
Thanks to lower overheads, Animal Behaviour Australia can provide quality, professional consultations to more clients, in more places.
Visit our Bookings page on the website for a detailed service pricelist.
You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the value of our services, including these two popular consultations:
Behaviour Consultation (Modification) For a specific behaviour issue.
Includes:
-
Pre-consultation: The client is asked to complete a detailed questionnaire. This gives information in a format required for analysis and helps them to describe their pet’s behavioural problems. Giving us pertinent information that reveals all relevant behavioural and situational information.
-
Pre-assessment: Before the consultation, the information provided by the client is assessed, and a review of any video provided demonstrating unwanted behaviour is conducted.
-
1.5 - 2 hour video call consultation with the client, family members and their pet. Concluding with detailed and practical advice on how to correct behavioural issues and sustain positive change.
The client can jot down their pet's Behaviour Modification Plan in session or can choose to purchase a written, bespoke Behaviour Modification Plan created for them, at an additional cost. This is optional to prevent cost from being a barrier to getting behavioural help and advice.
Behaviour Consultation (Prevention) To prevent behaviour problems from establishing.
Great for new puppies or kittens, or for dealing with changes in home circumstances.
Includes:
-
Pre-consultation: The client is asked to complete a questionnaire that helps them to describe their pet in a useful format, and uncovers all relevant behavioural (their pet's characteristics) and situational information.
-
Pre-assessment: Before the consultation, the information provided by the client is assessed, including the client’s goals. Behavioural issues they need to proactively avoid are identified.
-
One hour video call consultation with the client and their pet. Focusing on the client's particular circumstances, the personality of their pet and unique behaviour characteristics. Concluding with in-depth and realistic advice on how to avoid problem behaviours from taking hold.

DID YOU KNOW, MANY OF YOUR CLIENTS FEEL EMBARRASSED WHEN THEIR PET HAS A BEHAVIOUR PROBLEM?
BUT YOU CAN EASILY FIX THIS!
When their pet has a behavioural issue many owners feel:
-
Too embarrassed to tell a vet or nurse.
-
It's their fault; they aren't a good pet owner.
-
They have failed or are useless, and are too embarrassed to speak up to get help.
-
If they ignore the problem, it might miraculously rectify, and they hope nobody notices in the meantime.
-
Defeated, and they do not realise their Vet Practice can advise where to get help.
All the reasons make us feel sad, but the saddest is they think their Veterinary Clinic can't help them. You can fix that!
By simply putting up a poster on the wall in your waiting room, your clients know where to access help without feeling embarrassed.
A nurse called this poster, 'A lifeline for pets poster.' It made us laugh, but she hit the nail on the head!

A ‘must have’ for puppies that show any nervousness at puppy school. And those who are particularly difficult, odd, or appear to be supercharged...
However, a BEHAVIOUR PREVENTION CONSULTATION is beneficial to all puppies and kittens.
Did you know? Behavioural issues are the number one cause of death for dogs under 3 years of age. This information is taken from the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior.
Feel free to download and print the Behaviour Prevention Consultation Poster - "Behaviour Vaccination" and include it in your Puppy Packs.
