NEW ANIMAL BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATION SERVICES NOW AVAILABLE FOR YOUR CLIENTS

My name is Dionna Newton, I am a qualified Animal Behaviourist with over 12 years’ experience in both preventing and correcting companion pet behaviour problems.

After practicing as an Animal Behaviourist in veterinary clinics in both the UK and Australia, I established Animal Behaviour Australia.  Now your clients can also access affordable Animal Behaviour services that deliver real results; that’s good for pets and good for your practice.

MY SERVICES & FEES:

Please see the rest of the website for more information about Animal Behaviour Australia’s services and pricing.   We can also provide posters, leaflets and business cards for you to display in your practice and refer to clients.

In brief:

  • $300 - Behaviour Consultation (90 mins) – For a specific behaviour issue.

  • $150 - Preventative Behaviour Consultation (60 mins) – For general behaviour advice.

  • $60   - Follow-up Consultation (30 mins) – As required, for further support and advice.

We can work closely with your vets to ensure their clients’ pets receive the best possible medical and behavioural care. Our objective is always to treat the root cause of any behavioural issue, however if medications are required to assist in behavioural therapy then we liaise with the referring vet who can prescribe medication.

MY BACKGROUND:

  • Biology based Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree – animal behaviour-focused honours.

  • Advanced Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour from the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology (COAPE) in the UK.

  • Animal Behaviour Australia is associated with The Centre of Applied Pet Ethology (COAPE) UK.

  • Affiliate member of the association Companion Animal Pet Behaviour and Training (CAPBT) which is the largest network of professional Pet Animal Behaviourists in the UK.

  • Qualified Veterinary Nurse from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (UK).

DO VIDEO CALL BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATIONS REALLY WORK?  -  DEFINITELY YES!

After more than a decade of face to face, in-clinic consultations I was sceptical about the effectiveness of this technology too. But experience has proven that they not only work, but are actually superior in overcoming limitations with traditional methods.

Video-calls are more effective than in-clinic appointments or house visits for behavioural consultations… Here’s why:

1. Consultations take place while the pet is in its normal behaviour state:

When a pet enters a veterinary clinic or has a stranger in their home during a consultation their natural behaviour inevitably changes. As an Animal Behaviourist, seeing how a pet acts in its normal, daily life (problems and all) is extremely important.Clients can supplement a video-call by sending in a short video of their pet’s unwanted behaviours if necessary.

2. Consultations take place in the pets home environment:

Depending on the nature of the pet’s behaviour problem, being guided through the home or problem location on a hand-held device by the client while discussing the pet’s routines can provide invaluable information to help diagnose and overcome behavioural issues.

3. Clients can access professional services that may not be available locally and at a time that enables all family members to attend (including after-hours consultations):

Meeting all family members involved in a pet’s care and creating a team plan to prevent or rectify behavioural problems greatly improves the long-term effectiveness of positive behaviour change.

4. Consultations prices are kept low by avoiding unnecessary overheads:

Video calls are free of travel time, travel costs and clinic operating costs, meaning clients get great value and save their time too. Video calls can be conducted via preferably Skype but also any other video call platform via a smart phone, tablet or laptop. It’s that simple!

Practice Poster

DID YOU KNOW THAT MANY OF YOUR CLIENTS CAN FEEL EMBARRASSED WHEN THEIR PET HAS A BEHAVIOUR PROBLEM?

BUT YOU CAN EASILY FIX THIS!

  • Many owners can feel too embarrassed to tell a vet or nurse.

  • They can feel like it's their fault and that they are not a good pet owner.

  • They often feel like they have failed and are too embarrassed to speak up to get help.

  • They may ignore the problem hoping that no one notices and hope that it may just rectify itself on its own.

  • They do not realise that their vet or nurse will be able to advise them on how to get help.

These are the most common reasons why owners do not tell their vet or nurse that they are having behavioural issues with their pet.

By simply putting up a poster on the wall of your waiting room, your clients know where to get help without feeling embarrassed.

Preventative Behaviour Consultations

IF YOUR CLINIC RUNS PUPPY PRE-SCHOOL THEN MAKE SURE YOU TELL YOUR CLIENTS ABOUT

"THE BEHAVIOUR VACCINATION"

WHICH IS A PREVENTATIVE BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATION FOR YOUNG DOGS

These are a ‘must have’ for puppies that show any nervousness throughout puppy school or are particularly difficult to handle or appear to be super charged for the entire time.

However, they are really beneficial to all puppies.

Did you know? It is behavioural issue’s that is the number one cause of death for dogs under 3 years of age? This information is taken from the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior.

Feel free to download and print the Preventative Consultation Poster -  "Behaviour Vaccination" to include in your Puppy Packs and mention this option at your Puppy Pre-school classes.
